Meet Xena - our almost 4 year old long coated Akita who is a big fluffy loving teddy bear. Xena wants nothing more than to be your adoring shadow - she will follow you everywhere.

Xena would love an Akita experienced family who understands her breed. She has previously lived with children and another dog however we would prefer a family without kids or other pets so that Xena's needs can be the number one focus as she settles into her new family's life.

Xena is well-mannered and easy going with women - she is unsure of meeting new men so she will bark at them. She may suit a family with just females or with soft natured males who will commit to gaining her trust. Xena comes when you call her and sits nicely for treats. She prefers praise and your attention over treats and is responsive to your affection. She will nudge you gently for pats. Being such a loyal girl she will guard family members so she will need a new family who will stay on top of this protective behaviour and teach her that visitors are friends too.

Due to Xena's long thick coat she will need considerable grooming to keep her looking beautiful and feeling comfortable. She is surprisingly tolerant when being brushed to remove matting. As much as it must have caused her discomfort to brush out her coat she was still pleased to be spending quality time with her humans.

The Akita breed is known for over heating so Xena will need to be allowed inside the home with her family especially during hot weather. She'll happily sleep inside in the air con on hot days. She doesn't need a huge yard as she's not overly energetic however a shady yard with cool places to snooze would be beneficial. She would love a daily walk and some lead training as she can be strong on lead - she's like a big ambling bear when given the opportunity to explore the neighbourhood with a walk.

Xena is a devoted girl who bonds closely to her people. If you know and understand the Akita breed and are keen to give Xena the consistency and routine she will thrive on then please contact us to find out more about this gorgeous girl.
